Indexing took a while, but now when I do a search in the network share, there are 0 results. So I did this with "sudo mdutil -i on /Volumes/sharename". I read on the internet that you have to index the network drive on each client machine.

When I perform a search it is very slow and only files with the search-string in their names are shown, not files with the search-string in the contents. All files are visible now but I can not search the contents of the share anymore on the clients. Since AFP will not be supported anymore in the future I decided to use the SMB-protocol for the share. Since upgrading to Catalina the AFP-protocol did not work anymore: empty directories were shown. Before we used the AFP-network protocol without problems and were able to search the contents and filenames of these shares. This "server" is only used for sharing files with 3 iMac's.

I just upgraded my Mac mini running OS X Server from Mojave to Cataline.
